General English Course

Course Description

The General English course is designed to prepare students for conversation, everyday situations and daily interactions that take place when travelling or living in an English speaking country.  Students learn and practice the four macro-skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking in an interactive environment. Levels of difficulty increase over the duration of the course to assist students to develop their skills and to be more confident and fluent in English.

The course is structured into 4 levels (Starter, Elementary, Pre-intermediate, Intermediate). Each of the levels has a duration of 10 weeks (the study period) and the course in total is 40 weeks.

Course Fee (Onshore) Tuition fee is $200 per week. Material fee is $20 per week. Enrolments fee is $300.

The tuition fee and material fee must be paid weekly.

All payment may be made by bank transfer to the nominated account or by cash.

Where the student is experiencing any difficulties , he /she should be referred to the Student Support Officer who will seek to assist. If the student ’s needs exceed
Australian College of Applied Business’ support capacity, it will
refer the student to an appropriate external agency.
It is Australian College of Applied Business’ policy to provide additional learning assistance to students who are struggling
without involving any additional costs.

Student must dedicate at least 20 hours per week for the scheduled classes.

Student must do all the required assessments/examinations to successfully complete this course.

All materials needed for students’ assessment in this course will be provided by the College. Students need not incur any extra cost to buy the materials for this course, except the material cost paid at the start of each week.

Learners who obtain a competent result for all units required will receive a qualification in General English according to the level the student have completed.

Entry Requirements

International students must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • There are no specific educational pre-requisites for entry into this course, as entry into this level is based on assessment of English language proficiency.
  • Students will be assessed at orientation using the Oxford Placement Test and an interview. They will then be placed in the appropriate class level as follows:
  • Students who have none or very little English will be placed in the Starter class level.
  • Students who are assessed as having English that matches the descriptors for A1 on the CEFR level will be placed in the Elementary class level.
  • Students who are assessed as having English that matches the descriptors for A2 on the CEFR level will be placed in the Pre-Intermediate class level.
  • Students who are assessed as having English that matches the descriptors for B1 on the CEFR level will be placed in the Intermediate class level.
